  • What does putting a brake rotor on a 2000 Escort zx2 entail?

And how much time does it take for a pretty experience mechanic to do it?

If I want a back yard mech. to do it, and change front brake pads, how much in labor should it be???What does putting a brake rotor on a 2000 Escort zx2 entail? On the Ford Focus, it is just a matter of taking off the wheel, unbolting the caliper, removing the pad and rotor and reversing the process with the new materials. I would imagine no more than 30 minutes per wheel. Shops usually charge $50+ an hour. You do the math.

Are Autozone's Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?

I have 57k mi on my Z28. Yes, they are the Original Pads!! %26lt;:^D

    (Highway Miles, Obviously!!)

I have Noticed that Recently they feel a little Different. No Squealing yet, but the Rotors look like the Area where the Pads Normally Rub appears abit smaller.

I know I should Change the Pads here this Spring, and I know how to do it.

But, where should I go to get New Pads, that will Last as Long as the Factory Pads did?!?

I am Aware that they are Probably Ceramic Pads, but the GM Dealer charges INCREDIBLY TOO Much for me to Justify Buying from Them.

I have Changed Brake-pads for People, and have Personally found Ceramic-Pads to Last Longer on Cars. The Pads I get for People come from AutoZone.

I know that there are Expensive Brake-Pads out there that are around $100 a Set, but I am wondering if they are Worth it.

At AutoZone, the Premium-Ceramic Pads are $60 a Set for the Front.

So Ultimately, are the AutoZone Ceramic Pads as Good as what Came with my 2000 Camaro Z28?!? What do You Recommend I use in my Factory Calipers?!?Are Autozone's Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?yes, the cerammic pads will last longer than your factory ones will. ive seen many with over 65,000 on them and we have a fleet of gm trucks. its all i use on them now. you'll be happy with autozones pads. i put them on both my vehicles too!! happy brakingAre Autozone's Premium-Ceramic Brake-Pads as Good as what Came in my 2000 Z28?!?I would only use AC Delco pads. A possible exception would be Bendix. I know you buy stuff at Autozone, but aside from the Fel-Pro gaskets they sell, their parts have no where near the quality that AC Delco has. I would look online for your brake pads or through an independent parts house that sells AC Delco. If you end up going to the dealer, ask for 10% off. Tell them you're a loyal customer. You may pay more for the real deal, but the real deal will last longer, be quieter, provide less brake fade, and you won't have to change the pads as often. The extra money on Delco pads will be well spent.

Do i need new brake rotors?

recently i started hearing a squeaking noise from the front passenger side of my car. kinda hard to explain but its a squeak squeak squeak like in a rhythm. when i speed up the rhythm speeds up and when i slow down it also slows down. so i figured it was my rotors but asked a friend just to be sure and he said to try changing my brake pads first. so i changed them and it helped for about a week and how they are squeaking again and alot worse than before and kind of embarrassing to say the least. before i bought some rotors, i just wanted your opinions. thanks for any help. oh i dont know if it matters but it is on a 1999 chevy malibu. thanks.Do i need new brake rotors?it could be u caused brake fade and the pads are glazed over.are they semi metallic is do maybe u didn't break them inDo i need new brake rotors?Your brakes pads were changed. A squeak squeak squeak would indicate a warped rotor:

    1. Buy brand new rotors if they are inexpensive. Rotors can be as low as $20ish and above $200.

    2. Have a shop %26quot;turn%26quot; your rotors which means grinding them down so that they are perfectly flat. This is usually included if you have a %26quot;break job%26quot; done on your car. Or take the rotors off yourself and carry them into a machine shop that grinds rotors.Do i need new brake rotors?Go to a auto part store and buy disc brake quite either blue or red and follow the directions.

How often do i need to change rotors for my car?

I have a 2003 mercedes. today i took my car for brake service. i only have 33000 miles on my car. all i needed was front brake pads. so the service guy now tells me that i will need front and back rotors also which amounts to over 1 thousand dollars because they say my rotors are completely worn out. I drive mostly freeways and never really brake hard or anything? could it be true? How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Your first mistake was to take your car in for brake service.

First get your car out of there. At home, jack up your car, take each wheel off and inspect the rotors. They will be right there in front of your face. Inspect your brake pads too. They should have at least 1.5mm on each side left of %26quot;meat%26quot;. Replace them if they don't. They cost around $7.50 for each wheel.

Run your hand over the rotors. They should be smooth without grooves or a high lip on the outside. A minor lip is ok. The rotors may be ventilated (have holes in them), and that's ok.

If you have grooves or a high lip, the rotor needs to be turned (resurfaced). Remove the rotor after removing the brake caliper. It will pull straight off. Take the rotor to an autoparts store and they will turn the rotor for about $10. If you have 4 bad ones, that will cost you $40. If the rotor is particularly bad, sometimes the store will not resurface them. Or maybe you can't find a place to do it. Or maybe you want to save even more money.

Take the rotor home, jack up the entire drive end of your car with both wheels off the ground. Jack each side, insert a jackstand, and then do the other side.

Put the rotor back on the spindle and secure it with the lug nuts. Don't put the wheel on yet. Start the car, put it in drive, and let the drive rotors rotate (turn) in the air. Take a belt sander and resurface the rotors as they are spinning. Wala, you saved an additional $10 per wheel. If the rotor is not from a drive wheel or the non-drive rotor will not fit the drive spindle, then you can mount the rotor on some other rotary table (like a record player) or mechanism and use the belt sander.

Sorry, but if you pay $1000 for new rotors, I will personally come over there and slap you.How often do i need to change rotors for my car?does not sound right....why can't the rotors be turned? How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Get a second opinion, it doesn't sound right. How often do i need to change rotors for my car? That guy is tring to rip you off, at the most the rotors may need turned, Take it somewhere elseHow often do i need to change rotors for my car?hes ******* with you. No way you wore out rotors in 30k unless youre doing alot of heavy racing. usually they last 100k+ miles. You can get em turned if theyre badly rutted. How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Rotors don't last nearly as long as they used to because they outlawed asbestos brake pads. Asbestos brake pads used to take the wear; the semi-metallic pads and ceramic pads today wear the rotor down more. It's not entirely unbelievable that they could need new rotors. Of course, rotors for most cars cost under $50 apiece, so check the parts stores to see if you can get cheaper replacement rotors.

Also, it's likely that, although the rotors may be worn out of spec, they will work fine if you just replace the pads....problem is, the mercedes dealer won't do it, because, if the rotors are out of spec, they would be liable if anything happened, plus they couldn't warranty it. So if you can do a brake job yourself (it's really not that difficult, if you have a repair manual) just put new brake pads on and don't even worry about the rotors. How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Sound like these joker are taking you to the bank. At 33k it should be your first brake change and only require rotor to be turn to give new brakes pad a fresh surface to mate on. Also, at that low mileage there should be plenty of meat(metal) to allow them to turn the rotor.

I'm a cheap person so I take my chances and just place new pad on without turning the rotors. also, i put lots of brake lube on back of pad to keep them quiet. How often do i need to change rotors for my car?Have him give you a written estimate detailing every part he is going to change, and make sure he includes labor and hazardous waste removal, which he will have to charge you for, and then go get a second estimate like the other responders stated. After you get one and maybe for more proof a second estimate, contact the States Attorney for your state. This guy is definitely looking at making some quick money from you or someone. You can also look up the price of rotors by using www.advanceautoparts.com or any auto parts store. You can also contact the Mercedes dealer and see what they charge for the rotors. Most garages charge upwards of 50.00 per hour labor. I am unsure of your car, however most rotors can be changed in one hour per wheel, so figure at least 2 hours labor.

If your rotors wear out in 33,000 miles, you need to get a different vehicle. I have a 94 Ford truck that has been driven almost daily for over 3 years with my wife and I together running it over 65,000 miles and I still have not had to change the rotors. I have had the pads changed twice, but no rotors. How often do i need to change rotors for my car? There is no mileage recommendation on replacing rotors, when being serviced, they are measured with a micrometer for minimum thickness, if they are below this specification then they need to be replaced. On some domestic cars and trucks, the rotors are very thick in relation to the minimum spec and can be machined 2 or three times before replacing but I have found on Mercedes-Benz that this is not always true, and also they use a hard semi-metallic pad that wears rotors out even faster. If you are in doubt of the honesty of your mechanic, then a second opinion is helpful, and then you can ask him these questions: What is the minimum thickness? What are my rotors measuring? Can you show me? This will keep them honest. Also, if one side is worn and the other o.k., This can indicate other problems like calipers sticking or something.

How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?

Honda dealership tells me my rear pads will need attention soon which I later found out is common with this model. Front pads still have 8mm. They just didnt specify how soon? One month? Next oil change? I only have 22,000 miles on this car and yes I think it is a bit premature to be repacing rear pads especially before the front but I want to make sure I dont wait too long and then have them tell me I need new rotors too!!!!!How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Hard to say without knowing how much you drive a day or what your braking habbits are...

Hold on a minute, let me get out my magic ball. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Honestly your under the %26quot;limits%26quot; and need to just replace both now. it may seem stupid, but honestly it needs to be done before you warp the rotor or ruin the surface.

you do know that your front brakes do 90% of the braking while the rear only does 10% correct? if it was true 50/50 the rear brakes would lock up everytime you hit the brakes. on older cars that have disfunctional brake proportioning valves, the rear tires will lock up when you hit the brakes hard.

Just replace em before it ends up costing you more. and just a tip, if you turn the rotor while your there, the brake pads will last longer. just make sure the rotor is not at its minimal thickness. the people at autozone/napa will have a micrometer to measure the thickness to verify if it can be turned or not.How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?22,000 miles is pretty early to be replacing brakes, but it really depends on your driving habits. We just did the brakes on my wife's car at 65,000 and it was just the front pads. There is no way to tell how long yours will last. An additional tip....take it to a good local brake shop for an inspection and a second opinion. I would not suggest going to Autozone or any similar parts store. The staff there are low paid people who know little about cars. All they know is how to sell parts. How many more miles until I need to change rear brake pads if they 4 mm of life left?Honda considers 2 mm the time to replace brake pads. As for how many miles you have left, it depends on driving habits (like the others said), and how much city vs. highway driving, etc. You're OK for now but keep an eye on them.

  • Brake rotors for a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT?

I had new ones put on about 2 months ago because they were warped. I did not change the brake pads at that time because they looked good. Well, after these two months I have the same vibration when braking. How hard is it to replace the rotors myself when I replace the pads? I have done pads before and they are not that hard, but never attempted the rotors before? Too difficult compared to replacing the pads?

Also, on my truck, are there rear brake pads? If so should I replace all 4 at the same time?

Thanks!!Brake rotors for a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT?you should never replace rotors and not replace the pads because if the rotors are warped then this means the pads are worn off uneven ,so now you will have to replace the pads and get the rotors turned and hope that repairs the problem, you should do the front as a set and the rear as a set,and you should have 4 wheel disc brakes on that one, look to be sure though, good luck.Brake rotors for a 2006 Dodge Ram 4x4 Quad Cab SLT?wel if you can replace pads you can pretty much handle any part of brake system you can find a how to by typing

Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?

when ever i try to change brake pads its either hit or miss....

sometimes when i pull off caliper the pistons and worn pads are pushed to the rotor making it impossible to slide in the new pads....

please note that i dont want to use a method that would break any seal around piston

how do i push em back or prepare my car for the maintenance?Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?Use a C-clamp and press on the old brake pad ( pushes the piston back )

you first MUST remove the 2 caliper bolts and pull the caliper off the rotor. You do not have to remove the brake line though... Just try to balance the caliper on top of the rotor while working with it to push the piston back.. No brake bleeding required this wayChanging brake pads pulling off caliper? In an automotive garage they usually have a tool for pushing the caliper pistons back into the caliper. It looks like a backwards pliers that pushes out with two plates on each side. This essentially pushes both sides of the caliper back in easily. You could try to find one of these or you can use channel locks to push the calipers back in a little at a time. Vise Grips will also work great if you have these tools. If not you can always try to use anything like a screwdriver or something like that to simply push the calipers back in.Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?I usually pry open the caliper a little with a big screw driver to release some of the pressure and then the caliper and pads come right off. Open the break fluid container in the engine compartment and get ready to soak up the overflow.

It is very hard to take them off if you do not release some of the pressure.Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?I use a 6 inch c-clamp. Leave one of the old pads in the Caliber against the piston and Tighten slowly, and do not be alarmed with fluid that might over flow from the master cylinder.Changing brake pads pulling off caliper?you use a c-clamp to push the piston back into its bore so the new pads will go over the rotor.you won,t break the seal. the seal is up inside the piston. what you see on the outside is the dust boot.

How do I change my rotors and pads on a 07 Scion TC?

I know the basics but I can't seem to find a fool proof instruction guide anywhere. I think it's a 14mm socket, C clamp and what not but is there anything else? Do I need to do things like take off the cap to the brake fluid reservoir or anything specific? Thanks ahead of time. How do I change my rotors and pads on a 07 Scion TC?Yes remove the cap in case pressing the calipers causes the fluid to over flow.

Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?

I got an oil change today and the shop said I have 1mm of brake pads left and I should probably replaces the Rotors as well b/c the rotors from the car factory (I have a fairly new car) are junk and should be replaced, Also I was wondering how much one would think is reasonable to pay for the replacement of these, I have an 06 Chrysler pt cruiser, thanks.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads? The rotors for your PT Cruiser (assuming it's a 2.4L non-turbo model) are 23 mm thick, and that includes the vents in between the braking surfaces. The minimum discard thickness is 21.4 mm. This is the thinnest that a shop can legally machine your rotors down to, and put them back on your car. That's a difference of 1.6 mm, or about 63 thousandths of an inch (1/16th). Given that rotors get thinner as they're used on the car, and then it usually takes a minimum machining of 10-15 thousandths of an inch per side to get them even again, it may very well end up being difficult to do so without going past the legal limit.

This is the case with many modern vehicles. Older cars used to have rotors with a difference between the new and discard thickness more along the lines of 120 thousandths of an inch. That's probably what the mechanic meant when they said they were %26quot;junk%26quot;. They're pretty much good for one set of pads, and then you need to throw them away. And the thickness of brake rotors are very easy to measure while on the car, without doing anything except taking the wheel off. They are measured with a special micrometer, which any mechanic worth his salt has in his tool box.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads? When they say, %26quot;The factory rotors are junk, buy ours,%26quot; they're just trying to make a sale. However, rotors do need to be replaced when they become too worn, which normally can't be determined without some special equipment to analyze the surface. Take it to a brake place, not an oil change place, for a better opinion.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads? The rotor should be replaced when they are worn beyond limits. A %26quot;probably should%26quot; is not sufficient for me. I just got a car inspected in Maryland a month ago and the guy told me the rotors are close to the end. They were within limits so he had to pass them and there's nothing wrong with running with rotors that are worn. Besides instead of telling me somethings junk without measuring it and telling me whats left is poor business and I decline to go back to that place.

Pt Cruiser-Go on to a program like rock.auto.com if you want an example what a rotor will cost. Rotors for this beast are pretty expensive.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?the rotors dont have to be replaced as long as they are still with in spec. usually rotors can be turned to resurface them. there is however a minimum thickness spec that if turning the rotors would bring them in under the spec, then they need to be replaced.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?Only if they are worn or you feel pulsing or vibrating when you push the brakes. Rotors from the factory are not junk. You do not need racing grade rotors for a PT Cruiser or for most of the newer cars on the street today.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?No they don't have to be replaced unless they are scored real bad. You can have them turned at least once before you have to replace them.Do Rotors always need to be replaced with brake pads?depends on type of fitment. allow 150 all in

I'm changing my brake pads today and i need to know what to look for .HOW ho i know if my brake rotors are still good?I would price out new rotors and the cost of having them turned. There may not be that much of a difference. For the most part, just feel the rotor. if it is smooth a flat, it should be fine. Any rough spots or sharp edges, replace it.HOW ho i know if my brake rotors are still good?Check the thickness of the rotor thats your biggest give away, if you notice one rotor is thinner than the other.. Or if you know how thick a normal rotor is, and its worn down change it!

As well as look for a lot of deep scratches, skoring and cracking. If you see any of these, it's beyond no good.

If you felt any shuddering when you hit the brakes, you should also replace them.

You should also replace both at once, not just one side.HOW ho i know if my brake rotors are still good?If the braking surface of the rotor is rusted or the thickness is below spec. than it should be replaced, otherwise if thick enough, it can be resurfaced and use.HOW ho i know if my brake rotors are still good?just look at them see if they are flat and not scraches also feel them with your hand and make sure they are smoth. i would recomend getting them cut at a local auto shop and it will save you in the long run

How to make sure brake pads are properly installed, 2005 toyota corolla?

Im first time brake change on this car, im replacing the rotors and pads, but i see a clip that goes somehow on ine of the pads. Just want to make sure how to do this. How to make sure brake pads are properly installed, 2005 toyota corolla?the clip is likely the anti rattle clip or its a brake squeeler. the antirattle spring or clip helps stop chatter of the pads. it is often held in place by the pads. it is usually visible on top of the caliper. if its brake pads your doing be sure to clean and use the packet recomended for disc brake quiting as well. also even though new or turned clean the braking surfaces with brake clean on the rotors. there is often a film of protective oil placed on the surface to stop surface rust from forming durring shipping or storage.

I am trying to change the Brake pads and rotors and an 05 Malibu maxx. Getting the tire and the brake calipers removed is the easy part. But now I'm having a hard time getting the rotor off. Should the rotor come off freely after removing the calipers? Or is there something else holding it on that I'm not seeing? I thought maybe it was just really rusted on so I held a small piece of wood to it and tried to tap it loose with a hammer but this thing will not budge. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance! How to remove brake rotors on a 2005 Malibu Maxx?Get rid of the wood, smack the front surface of the rotor between the wheel studs hard, turn it, hit hard, keep doing that til the rotor breaks loose from the hub. You are wasting time using wood. How to remove brake rotors on a 2005 Malibu Maxx?it probably uses the same design common on most hondas. the rotor is probably pressed on the hub. you will have to remove the whole hub assembly and remove the rotor using a press. and you will need to replace the wheel bearing as wellHow to remove brake rotors on a 2005 Malibu Maxx?it should just slide right off the hub after you remove the caliper. put a pry bar behind it and slap it good with a hammer but watch you don,t bend the backing plate.

Brake pad and rotor change advice?

    Mazda astina 1991.

Mechanic says my brake pads need replacing, they are 19mm, the minimum thickness is 20mm. Should i be worried, how quick do they wear down?

My quote states x2 brake pads, one $76, the other $93. Why isn't he using the same type of pads? Also, is he assuming i want the best quality ones, should i ask for cheaper?

Plus x4 rotors, $57 each. But he told me only the fronts needs replacing. Are there 2 rotors per wheel?

    labour $130

    total AUD$530

    !!

I have not noticed any vibrating or warping. Only a put-put-put kind of shaking sometimes, when i change gears, just feels like it's a bit cold, and i'm not using the brakes at that time.

Might get another mechanic to just replace pads and check how damaged the rotors are.Brake pad and rotor change advice? From your listed prices you've been quoted cheap off-shore brake rotors. Go to: autopartswarehouse.com and invest in EBC dimpled and slotted brake rotors which are produced in Great Britain. While your at their site pick out ceramic based brake pads. Do the job yourself and save $200.00!Brake pad and rotor change advice? You really need to get another quote. Brake pad and rotor change advice?his quote is for a four wheel brake job... the pads come in sets for front and rear.... not individual wheels... even though he said the rears may be thick enough now most shops will machine them to make sure they are not warped - if there is a warp they try to machine it out and then they may be to thin... so just to cover their butt they include new ones in the estimate... there are a few shops that just replace them though so always make sure to check the bill before you pay

I do mine myself and can't machine the rotors so they just get replaced... depending on how you drive they should last 20,000 to 40,000 miles... if they can be machined at that point then you may get more out of them... hope this helps and good luck with itBrake pad and rotor change advice? You are a dangerous breed my friend. Thank GOD you pile of junk is in another country as not to present a danger here.

20mm is spec and your at 19mm... Here if your involved in an accident and your car is inspected and found to be lacking in the brake area you get charged with criminal negligence.

The estimate is in the ballpark.

    Brake pads+rotors+calipers?

Hi, I went to my car dealership today to get oil change %26amp; tire inspection and they said I need new brake pads, both front and rear (5mm left? how bad is that? they said it's fine now but I should get it at my next maintenence service)

I said why, I just replaced (or re-surfaced? don't remember...) my brake rotors and calipers about a year ago (at Firestone) and they said the mechanics who did it last year should've really done rotors, calipers and brake pads all together at the same time, not separate. And that it's kind of a wast of money when you do it (separately) like that.

Is it true that pads, rotors, calipers %26quot;must%26quot; be done simultaneously? Is it the fact that I only did rotors/calipers that caused my brake pads worn out so quick?

They're saying I'll need about $800 to get all three done (along with some other little stuff to make my brakes fine) Is this reasonable?

I understand dealership might rob you like crazy sometimes and it's not the best place to go but I kind of like this particular location dealership they've been pretty honest according to my past experience. Even today, I told them to let me know if I need to get new tires and they said it's perfectly fine even though I have over 52000 mile on it and never replaced any one before (is this normal? seems like they last forever! I thought you replace it every two year or so...)

I also asked to get tire rotation but they said it's not needed at this point. even though I got it at pretty much all my oil change services (every 5000 mile)?

I drive Scion tc 2006, any feedback would be greatly appreciated~

Thanks all for reading this super long question ;)Brake pads+rotors+calipers?%26gt; I just replaced (or re-surfaced? don't remember...) my brake rotors and calipers about a year ago (at Firestone) and they said the mechanics who did it last year should've really done rotors, calipers and brake pads all together at the same time, not separate. And that it's kind of a wast of money when you do it (separately) like that.

You can replace the brakes FEW times before resurfacing the rotors (I do this all the time). But most of the time, if you are going to resurface the rotor, they always replace the brakes. That way the NEW rotor surface last longer.

    ====

All this is moot. Brakes jobs are VERY standard. There's NO reason to do them at the dealership. Go to ANY garage or brake shop. Even a rank 1st year mechanic can do brakes.

That was the FIRST thing I learned to do.

    ====

Also since the rotors were resurfaced before you PROBABLY don't need to do it again. The dealers are FAMOUS for OVER estimating the problem. They say that they want to COMPLETELY fix a problem (yeah - at your cost !!!! ).

Good luck.......Brake pads+rotors+calipers? You do NOT have to do all three simultaneously, in fact its a waste of money to do so.

Calipers should never go bad and therefore never need to be replaced.

Rotors should only need to be turned if you warped them, either from overheating the brakes or going too long with worn out pads.

Brake pads go a couple years if not abused so you probably dont need them yet. In addition, you change the rear brake pads/shoes only once every other time you change the front ones.

Always bleed the brakes after all services, and thats the only %26quot;other little stuff%26quot; involved. It should only cost about $20.

$800 is quite ridiculousBrake pads+rotors+calipers?if the rotors are not scored then just change the pads calipers only need doing if they leak oil brake pads replace at 1.0mm you may have someone who can help you change your brake pads / pads must be replaced in pairs eg. both front pads , both rear padsBrake pads+rotors+calipers?$800 for a brake job is way too much.

I never go to the %26quot;stealership%26quot; unless I need parts that I can't get from anywhere else.

You don't need to replace pads and rotors simultaneously. I've never heard of anyone resurfacing calipers.

The pads will ware down faster than the rotors. As long as the rotors aren't cracked, warped, or damaged, there really isn't any reason to replace them. (The price difference between resurfacing and buying new rotors are very minimal, so just buy new rotors)

Once you hear a squeaking noise when you apply the brakes, that's when you'll know you need to get new brake pads. (There's a metal bar that comes in contact with the rotor which causes the noise)

Oil changes should be done every 3 months or 3000 - 5000 miles, or which ever comes first.Brake pads+rotors+calipers?Pads need to be replaced. Rotors can be replaced or machined(if they're not too thin). The mechanic can measure it. The calipers just need to be greased, but they really shouldn't charge you much for that if they're changing the pads already. Afterward, they should bleed or flush you brake fluids depending how old it is. The rotors should be good for 2 or 3 sets of pads before replacing. I don't generally have my rotors machine between pad changes, but you can check with your fingers to see if there are any deep grooves.

It's not a difficult job so I recommend you look into aftermarket parts and another shop to do the job. You probably just need the front brakes changed and bleed all 4 brakes. I've used Napa rotors and they work fine for about 1/4 the cost of factory rotors.Brake pads+rotors+calipers?if the rotors were replaced so should have the pads been replaced you never replace rotors with out replacing pads and yes calipers go bad all the time especially dodges ive replaced more stuck dodge calipers than any other brand and if the plenomic piston sticks yes it is very possible that it could/would ruin both rotor and pads but on the other hand its very common to replace just pads so if its 2006 model wouldn't caliper be a warranty issue no i wouldnt pay overpriced dealership pricesbut on the other hand i would expect brakes to last more than a year

hope this helpsBrake pads+rotors+calipers?$800..... NO they are LYING to you... you never have to change the calipers.... new pads wont be much and the rotors shouldne be much either if you are replacing them, if you replace all 4 rotors and new pads it shouldnt be over $300....Brake pads+rotors+calipers?By the book every time you replace brake pads you should resurface or change your brake rotors. If the caliper's aren't bad (as in not seized, leaking and working fine) then they don't need to be replaced but the can and DO go bad. Can you change pads but not resurface your rotors? Yes but they will not perform as well or as long as they would if you did resurface or replace. Remember these are brakes not spark plugs they save your life all day long, they are worth throwing a little extra money at, it's your life and others that rely on it. Plus if there tearing apart the brakes already and you have the money, then it's a very good idea to have them replace the calipers because you will need to one day and you will know you need to, when you press on the brakes and they don't work (worst scenario) or just start to leak. And as for the rotors being under limit in thickness yes that is bad... very bad. That means they are too thin to cool themselves under normal operation, And again these are brakes not spark plugs they are worth the money!

It's really annoying. I put in new brake pads, but I didn't change the sensors and I'm not going to because they are stupid expensive for a feature thats pretty unneeded. Is there any way to keep this light off for good? It comes on every time I turn on the car and I have to hit the arrow up to turn it to something else.

Also, are those sensors the possible reason for the annoying chirp I hear while driving? It sounds like its coming from the wheel in the front but the rotors are new, brake pads are new and everything is in sound shape yet it makes the most annoying chirp ever. Could this be because the car thinks it needs new brake pads so its telling me to change by chirp and by stupid light on the dash? How do you get the change brake pads light to go away on a 1999 Cadillac Seville STS?put a piece of black electrical tape over the light or buy the sensors. How much do front brake pads & rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?

    Hello,

Yesterday my car started grinding when I was braking... I knew my pads were low and I drove on it for about a day. The grinding got worse as I knew there was no pad left and it was now metal on metal. I took my car into Speedy Auto and got it checked out. They showed me bare brake pads and grooves in my rotors from the grinding. They said the rotors had hot spots on them and wouldn't be able to be machined.... that they would have to change the rotors altogether. So I went ahead with the procedure and the bill turned out to be $341.00 for front brake pads and rotors. Is this a normal price for a procedure like this? Or did I get ripped off a bit here?

    Thanks for your time,

MitchHow much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?That is a fair price. Could you have gotten it done at some hillbilly shop cheaper, of course. Speedy is national chain shop and you got a good warranty. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?That is a fairly reasonable price. Depending on where in the country you are, and how good of quality parts they used. A repair like that on a Toyota should be between $275-400 depending on the parts used. Your right in the middle, so not bad. At the dealer we get around $425 for Toyota original parts. They most likely used aftermarket parts thus the discount. Doesn't mean the parts are any less quality though as some aftermarket brakes are better then the factory ones. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?they got you a little bit on this one, normal cost on doing that one should have been around 250 bucks total, but you paid their cost on the mark up for the parts also so that's about right for a shop, they mark the parts up ,but it could have been done a lot cheaper than this, considering replacing everything was lot easier of a job, good luck. How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?over half the cost was labor, parts probably didn't cost them much over $120.How much do front brake pads %26amp; rotors cost on a 2000 Toyota Camry LE.?yes id have to agree, you got the typical markup for getting it done at a shop they usually can double the price for parts at the minimum. when doing my own Camry i get large box sets of pads that would work out to be 15-20 dollars to put pads on the front tires. but just buying them for two wheels can be 25-40 depending on name brand or just like the general Napa brand which is fine. the rotors range from 40-60 for each all purpose rotor. that's why its a good idea to change or at least check the brakes when they start to squeal. that's the wear bar rubbing on the rotor to let you know. you normally don't want to let the pads get any more worn down than having 1/16th inch left of pad. they are very simple to change just get a manual online for ten bucks. takes about 15 min a wheel and save you hundreds of dollars.

When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?

I'm about to get my brake pads done because they are screeching like crazy when I stop. The mechanic said I should get my rotors done too. He hasn't actually looked at the cat yet. How impotrant is this, and do I have to do this at the same time? Also, how do I know if those need to be done too?

Thnaks, usually my friend helps me with my car but I have to go to the shop this time, so I'm confused.

p.s. I drive a v6 mustang, if that helps. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?if the rotors arent warped or gouged from previous brake pads i wouldnt worry about it. easy way to tell if rotors are warped is at medium speeds and highway speeds, your steering wheel will vibrate back/forth either violently or steadily...you know the annoying steering wobble...thats warped rotors 97% of the time.

its common practice to have rotors turned too if they are only slightly gouged or warped.

the rattling is most probably the dust shield on that wheel. its probably cracked and just flapping in the wind against the suspension and the wheel. it just prevents dust from the brake pads from going everywhere. I've had several cars I just ripped them the rest of the way off and left it.

if the car is running fine and not throwing codes, then the cat is ok. if the cat clogged up, you either would have a really crappy running car or it wouldnt crank at all. he cant physically check the cats other than looking at the external cases. too many bends in the exhaust system to even see the honeycomb. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?when the pads are changed, the rotors are turned at the same time. this makes them smooth and straight. if the rotors don't meet a certain thickness, then you replace them with new ones. before the rotors are turned, the mechanic will measure them and tell you if you need new ones. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?the only way to know for sure if the rotors need changed or %26quot;turned%26quot; is to physically touch the rotors and see if they have deep scratches or grooves in them. ususally (not always) u will have to replace them about every two sets of pads. %26quot;Turning%26quot; means to grind them down so they are smooth again. Sometimes its as cheap to buy new ones as it is to have the old ones ground. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?Rotors should be machined at same time. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors? It is good to change the rotors as well. But you dont have too. You should soon. But if you dont have the funds dont stress it. The most important thing is to stop the screetch.

I changed my front and rear pads but not the rotors. I plan on changing them soon but it hasnt caused me anything. My pads are still screetching in the front because I got some cheap and too hard pads. Im going to take them out since the shop didnt do it and put some antisqueal and see if that works. If not Im returning those brakes and getting my money back for better ones.

Its just easier to change the rotors while changing the pads but some people dont have all that money to do so. Once they take off your caliper it would be a simple swap to just put the new rotor on. Its a way they make some easy money as well. But it wont kill you. Just get them changed too or see if they can be resurfaced if they arent bad. Go somewhere and get a free brake check. In fact get second opinions as well. Nothing wrong with that. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors? If the rotors are scratched or have rough surface or groves in the surface then any new pads you put on will be worn very fast.It is important to have them turned or replaced if needed but if the mechanic didnt even look at them...you could see yourself without taking the tire off if you can look through the wheel spokes or even feel the rotors. When I change my brake pads how imortant is it to do the rotors?Screeching noise is very normal , since there is a sensor attached to the pads to alert you when it's time to get new pads , but keeping on driving your car with this noise for a long time , will damage the rotors , then you'll need to get new ones ( they run about $25 each), you should have the rotors TURNED when you replace the pads , %26amp; if they worn out then you better get new ones . Good Luck

Audi's were designed to have repeated safe stops at Autobahn speeds. In this country, where excessive speed is unlawful, European brake systems usually last twice as long. Front brakes usually 50-60,000 miles; rear brakes, 90-100,000 miles. Never use anything but genuine Audi parts in your brake system(don't go to Firestone and use aftermarket anything parts) The only exception are the brake pads made in Australia that leave no brake dust. Have your dealership prove to you that you have premature wear in your brake system, it should still be under warranty. Have your brake system examined at a brake shop for a second opinion, but don't let them bastardize your fine car with non OEM parts, you'll be sorry in the long run. How to change brake pads on a 2003 mazda 6?

I just recently bought a 2003 Mazda 6 with 25,000 mile on it. I notice that there is a slight sqeeke when I break and would like to change the pads now before they wear the rotor. I first thought about going to the shop but the idea of spending $150.00 per axal is appalling (especial when you consider that a set of pads for the front and another for the back only cost a total of $40.00). I also own a 1997 Mazda 626 and have done the front brakes on it a number of times. What I needed to know is is there any difference between changing the brakes on the old one versus the new one. Are there any special tools I need? Are there any free online resources for repair and maintanance? I tried to find a Chiltons or a Haynes at my local auto store but they don't have one for a Mazda 6. Any help would be greatly appreciated. However like I said most brake systems haven't changed much and replacement has been done in the same fashion. How to change brake pads on a 2003 mazda 6?It is the same process for changing the pads on any car. What you are primarily paying for with brake jobs is labor. Yes, the parts are $40, but that means you are being billed $110 for labor, and since the standard labor rates for mechanics are around $60 an hour, that's about two hours work, which is about right.

How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?

    I have a 1999 Acura Integra.

I went to the shop and had the following done:

new brake fluid, changed air filter, front brake pads, rear brake pads, front rotors.

It was 185 parts+ 160 labor came out to be a total of $361.

Do you think it was a fair price? How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?THats fair for not doing it urself...If it was my car, it would of cost me 160, i do all that myself :)

But to do it yourself would require about 200 to 400 in tools and safety equipment. This pays for itself after a few years. How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?thats cheaper than dirt/in nj front pads are 125.cramic/discs are 60 ea and the rear pads are 115/plus fluid and 160 labor and 750 for air filterHow much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?Although the labor cost always kills ya, the cost of the parts you got sounds fair. Rotors can cost $50 each or more, pads are usually $20 or more and theres almost all of your cost and you still have the filter ($5) and fluid to account for. You could always go to www.autozone.com and put in your car make and model and then find the cost of the parts there. How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors?Seems fair if the work is quality. Dirty job too.How much for front brake pads, rear brake pads, and front rotors? It all depends on what brands/quality parts he got you.

Assuming, he got you brand name parts at the lowest price (better than some cheap ebay brand at same price):

    Front rotor set around $80

    Brakes F and Rear: $100

Total 180 ish so thats a very good price.

For labor. Installing the front rotor and pads on each side takes about 30 minutes for total:

~1 hr on the front rotors/brake pads.

    ~45 minutes for rear pads

~20 minutes for bleeding and changing brake fluid.

    Total labor: about 2hr +

Verdict: Part fee was excellent. Labor fee was fair. You got good deal.

How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?

I know that i can go buy a book at an auto parts store but i was just hoping that someone here could give me step by step instructions on how to do it. I wont be doing it by myself. and a slight secondary question: (i understand that i am being exceptionally sexist here but...) i assume most of the answerers of this question will be male, so how would you want your girlfriend to repay you for working on her car?How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?simple...jack the car up, put jack stands under and remove jack. then take off the front wheels to expose the rotors and caliper. there should be 2 bolts behind the caliper that hold it onto the bracket. take the bottom one out and swivel the caliper up and tie it to the control arm with some wire. then the pads should be exposed and you can just take them out. take out and clean everything with brake cleaner and wire brush, but wear a dust mask because the dust can be carcinogenic. to get the rotors off, take the caliper bracket off..there will be 2 bolts on the back of it. remove both and it will come off easily. then there should be 2 screws that hold the rotor onto the hub. use an impact driver, you can buy it auto zone or maybe Lowe's..(its a heavy duty screw driver that you hit with a hammer on the end and it turns out screws that are really tight without stripping the head., costs like 10 bucks)..then take both screws out and the rotor should come right off...then put new rotor on or have your old one machined and put the screws back in with the impact driver..put the caliper bracket on, then then the brake pads, but put anti squeal compound on the back of them then put them on bracket, then swivel caliper down, lube the hardware, and put ant sieze compunt on the threads of the bolts, then torque to propper specs. next you should bleed your brakes..buthat'sts not 100necessary.How do you change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?Herte's a link for the repair info on the brakes....http://www.autozone.com/shopping/repairG

But for now, remove wheel, take off 2 hex head or torx head bolts on inside of caliper. Caliper slides off and both pads pop out. Push piston (behind one of the pads) back in to accommodate thickness in new pads. Pop off grease cap in middle of rotor. Pull cotter pin (keeps bolt from turning) loosen bolt. Pull rotor off. Pack grease into new bearings, and reinstall with new rotor, tighten bolt and install NEW cotter pin. Slide caliper back on, tighten hex heads and install wheel.

Take bf to Applebees for dinner. How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier?take the tire off, remove the caliper and bracket, remove old pads and rotor, compress caliper with c-clamp or large pliers. CLEAN AND LUBE all friction areas ( where the pads touch the calipers and brackets, not on rotor however i clean and lube where the hub meets the rotor), put on new parts and reassemble. very easy for a mechanic, maybe you should just sit back and watch him this time and be sure to ask questions and make him feel like you needed him. i mean after all he is saving you a couple hundred bucks probably. as for repaying him..... wow what a concept.... uhh....how about a six pack and a cutchie coupon. How do i change the brake pads and rotors on a 2003 chevy cavalier? As for repaying the boyfriend, use your imagination !!! Best idea to start is to get some plastic gloves you can use. You will get dirty doing brakes. Remove the wheel and please remember to chock the wheels. You will see the caliper setting near the top and spray it with brake cleaner as you will be handling it a lot. Clean it good and give it a minute to dry. While waiting go under the hood and remove the top off the brake fluid reservoir. If it is just a screw cap on top then just loosen it well. The caliper that you have cleaned will have two bolts to hold them on. Remove them and pull caliper off the rotor. There is a cover in the center of the roter. Called a grease cap. Remove and there is a large nut with a cotter pin running through it. Straighten the pin and remove. Take large pliers and open them up to fit the nut. Remove the nut and the rotor will slide off. Put the new rotor on and replace the nut AND the cotter pin. If pin is old then buy a new one. Only pennies. Put the grease cap back on and you are in business. Now you will need a c-clamp to work on the new pads in the caliper. Attach clamp to the outside and the center of the brake pad. Slowly tighten the clamp and it will push old pads apart because new pads will be thicker. This is why you took the top off the fluid resivior to relieve the pressure. Replace the pads and you are ready to put the caliper back on. After alligning caliper then replace the bolts. STOP and before you do anything else replace any fluid you may need and put the cover back on the resivior. You did great and now ask the boyfriend to put the wheel back on. It's heavy and you are a girl !!! Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?

I'm a single mother who's brakes just went. I don't have a lot of money and can't afford to take my car into a dealership. I'm VERY good with my hands and I don't mind getting dirty (please no smart comments). I've never dont any car repair but i have done a little research. My question is how hard will it be to change my brake pads and rotors by myself being that i've never done a car repair on my own. (I've built plenty of things around the house...) And, also any suggestions?Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?well ususally it is not too hard. depends on the vehicle. go to a local parts store and get yourelf a repair manual for your car. it will tell you step by step with pictures. usually its just a couple bolts you have to remove.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?those damn rusted nuts are hard to get off there... I've tried and I went to a garage 1 hour after. Can't take that damn top nut off.( the one holding the break pad cylinders casing ) Don't go to a dealership, any mexican can do that. Brakes would be easy to change if everything was like new... the rotors are the easy part.

try anyway, if all the nuts unscrew , you're good to go.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Changing the rotors can be a little difficult you may want someone for support but I can change break pads with my eyes closed, just find a good how to book or site.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Doing brakes is a little more difficult than say painting around the house. Your life as well as others is in jeapordy if done incorrectly. I would suggest not doing brake work if you've never worked on cars before. Try learning oil changes, airing your tires, changing your air filter etc.....I suggest if you have your own parts, find a shop that will install your parts and have them do the work. There wont be a warranty if you furnish the parts but the cost would be around 100 dollars. Either that or find a friend that has done some brake work and pay them.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?brakes are not difficult, at least I don't think so anyway, I just buy the parts and they have a repair manual at the auto parts store.

The name of the books you can get for your car is either Chilton, or Hayes, they are specific to your car, or similar models. Example; I have a Mercury Grand Marquis, and the book covers the Ford Crown Victoria which is the same thing.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Brakes are Very important, please only do them if you have a experienced friend, you'll need a friend to help you bleed the lines ( any air in the brake line will compress when you push the brake, instead of applying the pressure to the disk/drum)

Good LuckChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?I certainly admire your determination and willingness to do your own brake work, but because you have admittedly never done any auto repairs - I would highly recommend that you don't start with a brake job. Perhaps a water pump or something similar - if you don't do it correctly, it still leaks - no big deal - but brakes? If you do this incorrectly, it could be a very big deal. Perhaps you know someone with a little experience and he or she could assist you? If not - bite the bullet and take it into a service shop.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?some tools and a c-clamp you can do it pretty quickly. Be careful it takes special tools to remove some calipers. AutoZone will tell you if you need specialty tools.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?youtube and expert village.com offer really good videos to tell you how to do these things . good luckChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Although I would love to make some %26quot;smart%26quot; comments about your %26quot;getting dirty%26quot; remark, I'll refrain.

Changing brakepads and maybe rotors by yourself for the first time will be impossible. You will likely not do it right and cause an accident or wind up leaving your car in a condition where it cannot be brought to a mechanic.

What you need to do is have someone there with experience who has done this before.

Some cars have rotors that can be slapped on without even spinning a bolt, some require specialized tools.

You'll need the following for brake pads:

    1. new brakepads

    2. brake fluid - a bottle

    3. a large C-clamp

    4. appropriate drivers - philips head, flat head, sparx, etc

    5. A good pair of pliers.

You will need to remember to collapse the caliper and bleed the brakes. Remember to loosen that nut looking thing on the caliper to allow brake fluid to seep before you colapse it.

Once you have done this a couple of times, this becomes old hat. It becomes easy and a great way to save money.

Best of luck with this, you can do it!

Finally, I'd also like to say that it is very, very sexy when a woman changes her own brakes. Especially if she's wearing blue denim overalls that are a couple of sizes too big and a skin tight white tank top.... so... what are you doing later? heheChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?there are alot of little details that go into a good brake job as apposed to one that will shake after few weeks of driving, supporting vehicle safely ,tools and chemicals make the first time expensive after that its not to bad .as an ex mechanis i have all the stuff so it takes me about an hour and 1/2 to do it in the driveway with out air tools, if you do it wrong best case is the car is stuck in your driveway worst is you crash.find someone whos done it and buy them some beer to sit and watch/advise you.its easier to talk them into watching then kneeling on the concrete for a couple of hoursChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Just as long as you dont mind getting dirty you didnt say what kind of car it is but about the best advice I can give you is go to the parts store where you got your pads and get a repair manual for your car it has step by step instructions with pictures as far as your rotors go you probably wont need them unless they have really deep grooves in them i mean almost through to the other side deep I have seen it happen before where the pads were past the rivits but anyhow 9 times out of 10 you can just have them turned but its not a requirement and while your out you might want to get some hand cleaner your going to need it if you need any help feel free to contact me directChanging brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?best solution. go to your local auto zone. and get some advice. you will need a big clamp, maybe about 12 - 16 inches. a Big one. for your brakes. then they will help you with the rotors. you may have to have them turned good idea to do that. auto zone guys will help you. or find a good friend to help you. its about 30 min a side for your brakes you can do it.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?EASY JOB. Get the wheels off, and unbolt the brake calipers from the spindle(if the bolts are tough get a can of PB blaster and spray'em up). you'll also wanna pick up a brake pad spreader(to push the pistons back in) then just replace the pads. once you get the calipers off the rotor will come right off, just put the new one on(make sure they're clean!) and slide the caliper w/new pads back over the rotor and bolt it back on. put the wheel back on and you're done!

BE SURE TO CHECK THE FLUID AND PUMP UP THE BRAKES BEFORE YOU TRY TO DRIVE. If they stay soft or spongy, you'll have to bleed them. you'll need help with that.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?it is a very easy job to do brake pads and rotors. all u have to do is pull the two slide bolts that hold that caliper on, and use a clamp to push the inside cylinder of the brake caliper in. then just pull of the rotor, put the new rotor on, slap the new pads in, put it back into place, and put the bolts back in. use the manual to verify the parts. it is a very very easy job and a good way to pick up mechanical knowledge.Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself? Some cars require a puller of press to remove the rotors. But if you don't need this, it's easy. Just read a repair manual before you start to make sure you can do all the required work and have the proper tools on hand. It's frustrating to need to drive to the parts store when you've already taken your car apart!Changing brake pads and maybe rotors by myself?Just chipping in another word of encouragement to try doing it yourself.

The sites listed above will help. This one explains it too.

    http://www.edmunds.com/ownership/howto/a

If you have Anti-Lock Brakes you need to bleed the brakes just a little. If you're not sure if you have them look for an ABS light when you start your car. Bleeding brakes is easy but it really helps to have someone step on the brakes for you, by the way. The other way I've done it myself is to prop a stick between the brake pedal and the driver's seat and scoot the seat up until it depresses the pedal. Then you go out, loosen the valve a little to release the fluid until it doesn't shoot out very much anymore then quickly retighten it so no air gets in. Then scoot the seat back and start over again one more time if you want or do it for the other side.

Also, if you're really looking to save money don't buy the brake cleaner. Maybe it helps but I don't and all the brakes I've done have worked fine.

Consider checking to see if your local parts store can turn (polish/clean up) your rotors instead of buying new ones. It's about $7.50 vs about $40 for new.

How to change front and back brake pads and rotors on a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0?

I need a link to a tutorial, or any inside knowledge that could be posted on a step by step process, hopefully with pictures on how to change these out. Everywhere I read is you need a special tool and that you should stay away from doing it yourself because of the difficulty, but i do not want to spend $800 on a brake job. So if anyone has ever done this please let me know what you recommend. I have a friend that is very mechanically inclined, and has changed brakes on every American made vehicle, so I am hoping this tutorial could help us both in installing these. How to change front and back brake pads and rotors on a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0?The front brakes are just like any other car. Two allen bolts holding the caliper on to the caliper bracket. Then two 18mm bolts holding the caliper bracket on.

The rear brakes will be difficult for you. You will need a special tool that screws the caliper piston back into the caliper. Besides that you need a thin 15mm wrench and a 13mm wrench to loosen the caliper. The bracket does not need to come off. You can sneak the rotor out.How to change front and back brake pads and rotors on a 2002 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0?I suggest a Robert Bentley Manual for your model.Especially if you're going to do more work on the car in the future. You'll need a set of 1/2 inch drive shallow well metric sockets and a 16%26quot; breaker bar or a 16%26quot; ratchet. The bolts inside the spindle are hardened, usually rusted somewhat and they have *Blue loctite in the bolt threads from the factory. That's why you'll need the extra leverage of a 16%26quot; ratchet or a less expensive braker bar. Sears and Auto Zone's best sockets work fine for this type of work.

After removing the brake caliper it's necessary to remove the brake caliper bracket before removing the brake rotors. Make sure you check and lubricate the brake slider pins with synthetic brake grease, avalable at any auto parts store. It may be necessary to hammer the inside of the brake rotor outward with a heavy ball pein hammer of a short lightweight maul. Turn the rotor as you hammer it. It's rusted on the end of the drive axles.

**It's important to use an electric drill with a stiff hardware store wire brush mounted on a spindle to clean the inside surface of the rotor which was rusted on the axle flange. Use the same wire brush to clean off the ends of the axles. If you have a shop nearby with a brake lathe the rotors should be re-surfeaced. If new rotors are necessary, find an AC-Delco dealer or your local Chevrolet parts counter. Auto parts stores nowadays sell cheap junk off-shore brake rotors which aren't worth your time and energy installing. autopartswarehouse.com has EBC slotted and dimpled rotors that have been cast in Great Britain which are exceptional parts.

Off-shore (China) cast iron is terrible. It'll rust corrode and warp easily. You'll also notice large pits in the surfaces as the brake pads wear the surfaces.

What ever brake rotors you decide to go with paint a thin coat of *Never Seize on the inside surface that mates to the axles. The rotors will never stick on the ends of the axles again. How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?

    Hi,

My car is 01 Hyundai Sonata.

I recently had a car check up and the precision tune auto shop recommended me to get new ceramic brake pads and rotors and change the transmission oil, motor oil, brake fluid and the battery.

For those works, how much SHOULD it cost for me?, meaning what's the normal price range for the job?

They wanted $640. Do you think that cost makes sense?

I live in Northern California, near San Jose.

I'd appreciate your answers. Thank youHow much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?Parts cost is about $60 for pads, $150 for rotors, $20 for tranny fluid, $20 for oil/filter, $10 for brake fluid and $85 for battery prior to labor you already are at $350, so 4.5 hours to do the job seems very good. Now, if you need all this work I don't know, I suggest getting a second opinion and compare with the scheduled maintenance list for your car and follow that. Tranny fluid every 30K, oil/filter 5K, rest of items as needed. How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?I would say that is on the high end.

I would say that the most expensive things they are hitting you for are the pad and rotors, and the battery. These auto shops have most consumers accustomed to paying high prices for brake jobs, when in fact they are cheap (strictly speaking about changing the pads and rotars, not the ABS system, etc...).

The battery I'm guessing shouldn't cost over $65. You could do that yourself.

I would try to find a shop that would do it for under $450. How much Would it cost to change transmission fluid, motor oil, a battery, and front brake pads and rotors?Well under $200 with quality parts if you do it your self. It's really easy stuff.

How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan?

Once you get the calipers off, the rotor should pull right off on that one I think. It's possible the caliper mounting bracket might prevent that, in which case that would have to be taken off too. If this is the first time they've ever been off, there may be some thin washer-like things on a couple of the studs that you can just break off and throw away. If you're putting brand new rotors on, use some brake cleaner and clean paper towels to wipe off the anti-rust coating that come on them before you put them on.

    Here's the rest for doing the pads;

Remove brake fluid from the master cylinder brake fluid reservoir until the reservoir is approximately 1 / 2 full. Discard the removed fluid.

Raise and safely support the front of the vehicle. Remove the front wheels.

    Remove or disconnect the following:

Front brake caliper guide pin bolts

Brake caliper by slowly sliding it up and off the adapter and brake rotor. Support the caliper out of the way with a strong piece of wire. Do not let the caliper hang by the brake hose or damage to the brake hose will result.

Compress the caliper piston into the bore using a C-clamp. Insert a suitable piece of wood between the C-clamp and caliper piston to protect the piston.

Outboard disc brake pad from the caliper by prying the brake pad retaining clip over the raised area on the caliper. Slide the brake pad down and off the caliper.

Inboard disc brake pad from the caliper by pulling the brake pad away from the caliper piston until the retaining clip on the pad is free from the caliper piston cavity

    To install:

Be sure the caliper piston has been completely retracted into the piston bore of the caliper assembly. This is required when installing the brake caliper equipped with new brake pads.

If equipped, remove the protective paper from the noise suppression gaskets on the new disc brake pads.

    Install or connect the following:

New inboard disc brake pad into the caliper piston by pressing the pad firmly into the cavity of the caliper piston. Be sure the new inboard brake pad is seated squarely against the face of the brake caliper piston.

Outboard disc brake pad by sliding it onto the caliper assembly

Brake caliper assembly over the brake rotor and onto the steering knuckle adapter

Caliper guide pin bolts and torque to: 35 ft. lbs. (47 Nm) on 2002-04 models or 26 ft. lbs. (35 Nm) on 2005 models

Apply the brake pedal several times until a firm pedal is obtained.

Check the fluid level in the master cylinder and add fluid as necessary. Road-test the vehicle.

    And here's a picture of the caliper, with names of all the parts;

http://repairguide.autozone.com/znetrgs/How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan? If you don't know how to do it, let a professional do it. It is your brakes a major safety item. I just don't want to see anyone get hurt because they don't know what they are doing. How to change front rotors and brake pads on 2000 Dodge Caravan?Brakes are extremely easy to do yourself. It's just barely more than jacking the car up and taking off a few bolts. If you don't disconnect the hose from the caliper you won't even have to bleed the brakes, not that it's that hard either though.

But, asking how to do it online isn't really a great option, it's just a few too many steps to accurately spell out, you certainly don't want to miss any of the steps. Go pick up a haynes manual at any repair shop, it'll be plenty thorough enough to do it yourself. If you've never done it before it'll probably take two hours. I've got a 02 xterra that's needs both and am not a big DIYer but I'd like to beHow hard is it to change your front rotors and brake pads?If you'd like a quick primer, go to your public library and dive into a Chilton or Motors Manual that concerns your specific car. If you get lucky any auto-parts store will have Haynes, or Chilton manuals specific to a number of years of all Nissan Cars. I do not think the manual will be specific to an Extera.

As for tools, a few shallow well half inch drive metric sockets, 12 mm. - 17mm. , a 1/2 drive ratchet wrench, and a large C- clamp or a Jorgensen - carpenters slider C clamp, jack stands, a hydraulic floor jack (safer than a bottle jack) is all you need.

#1. Slightly loosen all the wheels.

#2. get the vehicle up on jack stands

    #3. Remove front wheels.

#4. Remove brake caliper. 2 cap-screws are on the back side of the caliper bracket.

#5. Two cap screws need to be removed to release the caliper bracket from the wheel spindle.

#6. Rotors may need a tap on the back side to break them loose because of rust and corrosion.

#7. Using an old brake pad in front of the piston inside the caliper, position your clamping device behind the brake caliper and screw the clamp which forces the caliper piston back inside the bore.

#8. When replacing the rotors, paint on a small amount of Permatex Never Seize on the entire surface of the rotor where the lug holes meet the hub. The rotors will never stick again. If you plan on keeping your vehicle more than 3 yrs. Do not buy cheap off - shore brake rotors. They are often machined to minimum thickness, the cast iron is of poor quality, they rust and corrode quickly and they warp easily. Go for AC Delco, Wagner or EBC brake rotors. autopartswarehouse. com has Beck Arnley ceramic brake pads which include brake shims. Be careful what you choose for brake pads as most do not include the anti-rattle shims which add to the cost of your job.

#9.If your selection of ceramic pads does not include the shims there's another way to stop brake squeel. Buy a plastic bottle of CRC Brake Quiet at NAPA, Car quest, or Auto Zone. On the steel side of the front pads first, spread a .090 thickness of this high temp silicone covering 100% of the steel side. Let it dry for 20 minutes.

Slide the rotors back on and bolt up the caliper bracket.

Re-assemble the pads inside the caliper or sit them inside the caliper bracket and bolt the caliper in place.
